The city was founded more than 2500 years ago and for a long time served as the center of the legendary Khorezm government. The rich heritage that has survived to this day turns Khiva into one of the most interesting places in the East. The city is called the “open-air museum” due to the inner city of Ichan-Kala, which became the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Central Asia. In addition to history and architecture, Khiva is also famous for its local craft schools for the manufacture of jewelry, weaving and pottery.
During the city tour in Khiva, you will see all the sites, meet locals and taste Khiva's cuisine.
The day will start with the transfer to the local airport. The flight to Urgench is operated by HY 051; 07:00 departure from Tashkent. 08:40 Arrival at the Urgench aiport and a road trip to Khiva (Travel time: ~0:30 hours). Check-in at the hotel and free time for rest.
City tour in Ichan Kala Fortress. This is the open-air museum, which consists of 60 historical constructions and is surrounded by the thick wall 10 meters high. Ichan Kala belongs to UNESCO World Heritage List and includes the most popular sites, such as Kunya-Ark Citadel, Tash-Khovli Palace, Mukhammad Aminkhan Madrasah, Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah, Kalta-Minor, Juma Mosque, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, and Minaret of Islam-Khoja.
Time for lunch and free time for shopping. The evening will be spent on attending a Folklore Show and dining at a National House. Overnight in Khiva.
Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. A road trip to the ancient fortresses, located in the oldest region of Central Asia between Kyzylkum and Karakum deserts. The travel time is about 1:30 hours. Many ruins of ancient royal castles were found in that area by archaeologists. A stop by 3 the most famous fortresses: Toprak-Kala (a single, completely excavated monument in Khoresm), Kyzyl-Kala (the part of Toprak-Kala), and Ayaz-Kala (served to protect the oasis).
